ethos | |
what is national ethos | What is true is defined by the cultural and/or national ethos. Ethos is what defines a society, we all who live in a society are “obliged” to believe certain statements. Ethos is a collection of views, rules, and believes held by members of society. All what corresponds to the description of ethos is true. Of course there is scientific truth, in the core well define but even there are some epistemological problems, especially in theoretical physics but in general it is clear what is truth in science. |
ideology | Every society is based on ideology. Ideology is why defines a particular society. There many different societies and ideologies |
Why do we have society | A society is driven by “will” not by truth; it is “will” of rulers and “will” to submit certain degree of personal freedom in order to gain security. |
fake news and propaganda | In this light “fake news” is not unambiguous as it is presented. Adversary’s propaganda is called “fake news”. Our news can be considered as a fake news by other societies. Our affirmation for our societies can be considered by other societies as propaganda. This dilemma was already illustrated by Socrates and later rephrased by thousands of thinkers. The accusation of demoralization of youth is to be understood in broader terms of shaking of common fundaments. |
what is truth in the social context |
Socrates' questioning of ethos, is questioning of existing social
fundament. Today we could say - questioning of ideology. There is
something naive, dilettante and uneducated in assumption that something
is fake. Many thinkers Bertrand Russell, Wittgenstein, Popper pondered a
lot about what is true, real, what is well-defined etc. The whole social
order is an invention, an agreement. The constructs we agree to, we call
true, the constructs going against our ideology we call fake news. |
education and re-education of citizens |
The western societies do not rely on violent coercion of citizens but on
massive propaganda effort. The media present very narrow spectrum of
approved views. The citizens are indoctrinated into streamlined
personalities. This is a necessary process of education of citizens in
order to be capable to contribute, in an uniform way to the well-being
of a society. |
The culture of the native people is not compatible with the western societies | We try to hide that our well-wishing, loving and benevolent society is not as it looks. The ethos contains contradictions. We care about minorities, especially native people at the same time we have laws when employed to the native population are as destructive, and restrictive as the laws in 18-19 century America. In the same legal way as the American Indian Societies were destroyed, there is nothing in the EU legislation to protect native population. The traditional right to land is not respected; the economic rules lead to exploitation and destruction of the traditional living environment. |
we are for democracy, but not always | We boast that we promote democratic social order, respect elections etc. Not exactly, in the last 30 years at least 2 times the EU disregarded democratically elected governments giving impression that the wish of people is not respected. It was very poor presentation of the West’s superior values and assumption of moral correctness. |
